Carlton Centre Parking
Carlton Centre was built with a parkade for about 2,000 cars, and Transnet still markets about 700 covered bays in its Kruis Street parking building. Here is what is known about entrances, hours and rates, and what isn’t officially published.
What’s confirmed: parking exists at the complex, but Carlton Centre management doesn’t publish public parking rates or hours. The details below come from Transnet Property’s listing and parking directories, so check on arrival.
Carlton Centre parking overview
The original 1970s complex included a multi-level parkade for about 2,000 cars. Transnet Property’s current listing for Carlton Skyrink, the former ice-rink building on Kruis Street within the Carlton Centre complex, advertises “approx. 700 parking bays” alongside studios and offices. It isn’t clear whether all of these are open to shoppers on a pay-per-visit basis or leased to businesses.
Parking entrances
- Kruis Street: the entrance most often listed, at the Carlton Skyrink parking building (41–43 Kruis Street in map listings).
- Main Street: parking directories list the car park at 140 Main Street, with an entrance and exit on Main Street.
- Marshall Street: an older directory listing also shows an access point on Marshall Street (R29).

Parking rates
No current parking rates have been published by Transnet or a parking operator, and parking directories show no tariff for Carlton Centre. Some old travel reviews mention parking-ticket validation, but we can’t confirm that still applies. For comparison, one nearby CBD car park (12 Loveday Street) lists R40 for two hours.
Opening and closing times
Parking directories list the Carlton Centre car park as open daily from 06:00 to 22:00, pay on foot. Because this isn’t confirmed by management, and store hours end earlier (see Carlton Centre opening hours), plan to collect your car well before the evening.
Alternative transport options
- Rea Vaya: Carlton Westbound (Commissioner Street) and Carlton Eastbound (Albertina Sisulu Road) stations.
- Metrobus: Gandhi Square terminus, next to the centre.
- Minibus taxi and ride-hailing: drop-off on Commissioner Street. See directions to Carlton Centre for details.
- Other CBD parking: several private garages nearby are marked customers-only. Check signage before entering.
