Office tower
Carlton Centre Offices and Businesses
Above the mall, Carlton Centre’s 50-storey tower was built as prime CBD office space and served as Transnet’s head office for almost two decades. Here is what is confirmed about the offices today and how to make a business or leasing enquiry.
Office tower overview
The office tower rises 223 metres over 50 storeys, with around 68,000 m² of office space reported in 2018–2022. Transnet used it as group head office from about 2000. In 2018 about 1,440 staff moved to Midrand for a planned revamp that did not go ahead. By 2025 the Financial Mail described the tower as largely empty, apart from a skeleton Transnet crew.
On 24 August 2026 Transnet put Carlton Centre up for sale again with other non-core properties, so the future use of the office floors is uncertain.
